Set against a back drop of climate catastrophe and political heartbreak, Last Gasp is a call and response to the precarities of aging and of our age. Two separate but interdependent solo performances are woven together through the timeless pairing of Echo and Narcissus. Last Gasp looks for ways we might catch our breath in these times of great global uncertainty, considering our ‘last acts,’ whether personal, political or environmental.
The Long Table is a dinner party structured by etiquette, where conversation is the only course. The project combines theatricality and models for public engagement. It is at once a stylised appropriation and an open-ended, non-hierarchical format for participation. The (often-feminised) domestic realm here becomes a stage for public thought. Part of Lois’s Public Address Systems, the Long Table has toured far and wide.
Care Cafés are part of Lois’s Public Address Systems project. They are a public or domestic place for people to gather - their wits, thoughts and comrades in action. It is a temporary venue for communitas, conversation and activity within a spoken and visible frame of ‘care’. We regularly host Care Cafés at La MaMa Experimental Theater Club, where they have become a beautiful space for building community and coming together in care.
Through workshops, we focus on building collaboration, collective devising, solo performance, applied performance, interventions into classical texts, performance and representation of gender and sexuality. Through our ethos of Know How, we spread the strategies we have learned and developed over the years.
More on this soon! We are in the process of adding more information and language here so the above links are not currently functional. But lately we’ve been putting on a lot of little actions and events like Sit Downs and Speak Outs.
